Saudi Arabia has recently announced significant amendments to its Labor Law, aimed at enhancing the work environment and aligning with the goals of Vision 2030. These changes, approved by the Saudi Council of Ministers, affect 38 articles, with seven articles being deleted and two new ones added. The primary goals of these amendments are to improve job stability, protect the rights of workers and employers, and develop human resources through better training opportunities.

One of the most notable changes includes the extension of maternity leave to fourteen weeks, providing greater support for working mothers. Additionally, the amendments introduce paid bereavement leave, expanded definitions and guidelines on resignations and assignments, and increased flexibility for non-Saudi workers. Employers are now required to create training policies to enhance employee skills, which is expected to contribute to a more skilled and proficient workforce (Trade Arabia) (KSAexpats.com) (Wego Travel Blog).
These amendments resulted from extensive consultations and benchmarking against global best practices. Over 1,300 participants, including private-sector companies, government entities, labor committees, and human resources experts, provided feedback through surveys and workshops. By addressing the interests of all parties in employment contracts and focusing on creating a more attractive and equitable work environment, Saudi Arabia aims to foster sustainable development and increase job opportunities for its citizens (Trade Arabia) (KSAexpats.com).
